This year’s event date is May 10, 2008

According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 22,430 new cases of ovarian cancer were expected in the US in 2007. This cancer ranks second among gynecological cancers. There will be approximately 15,280 deaths from ovarian cancer this year.”Ovarian Cancer causes more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system.”

When you host a Blue Hydrangea Tea Party, you are raising money for organizations who work to create awareness about ovarian cancer. These organizations educate women about the symptoms of the disease and treatment options, if they are diagnosed with the disease. They provide emotional support to those who are undergoing treatment, as well. They need our financial support to spread the word about this devastating diagnosis. Through awareness, women gain the power to seek the medical attention they need to stay healthy.

All women are at risk of developing ovarian cancer. Because of its ambiguous symptoms, most women don’t recognize them as symptoms of ovarian cancer. Unfortunately, when we do begin to question them, ovarian cancer can be in the more advanced or end stages. As with all cancer, surviving ovarian cancer to live a long and full life is dependent on detecting it in its early stages. The same rule applies here as it does to any other cancer: A good prognosis depends on an early diagnosis!

At Blue Hydrangea Tea Party, we are committed to becoming a unifying force for ovarian cancer awareness. Our goal is to bring women together to learn about this disease and to support the agencies whose mission it is to educate others and promote research into better treatments and early detection.

“To every woman who has suffered the devastating effects of ovarian cancer…Your courageous walk through treatment, survival, and the shadow of death will forever haunt us and gives us the motivation to continue the fight in your honor and memory.”
